The luggage on aircraft, according to transportation responsibility, could be divided into checked baggage, carry-on baggage and hand baggage.
Checked baggage indicates baggage you give to the carrier for transport and pick up at your destination.
After you give your baggage to the carrier, there will be a baggage tag to you for picking u0p your baggage after your air travel.

Carry-on baggage means baggage that could be taken along with by passenger in aircraft after the permission of carrier, e. g. fragile pieces, valuables, diplomatic mails, briefcases and portable typewriters.

Including wheels, handles and side pocket, the sum of three sides of each piece of baggage should not exceed 115 centimeters (45 inches) and meantime, they could be laid into baggage rack or under seat to avoid any influence of cabin service and passenger movement.
After the permission of carrier, your carry-on baggage should be combined with your checked baggage to weight and then give you to take along with. Once it exceeds the free baggage allowance, you need to pay for the additional fee for the exceeded part.
Hand baggage means the small pieces of personal items that could be taken along with passengers on aircraft for free after the permission of carrier.

If your hand baggage exceeds the standard in weight, amount, or size, it needs to be treated as checked baggage.
Forbidden to be taken into aircraft
And items in the following are forbidden to be taken as your luggage:
Passengers should not carries articles which are prohibited, restricted or dangerous by the State, as well as smelly or items which may defile aircraft into aircraft or as your baggage.
Passengers are forbidden to take controlled knives or weapons onto aircraft.
Checked luggage allowed but carry-on/hand luggage forbidden
Slashing and blunt, beyond controlled knives should be treated as checked baggage, instead of carry-on or hand baggage.

Important documents and materials, diplomatic mails, securities, currency, draft, values, fragile and perishable goods and other goods which need to be kept specially
Samples, out of print presswork or manuscript
Electron products, digital products, and cameras
Medicines need to be taken regularly.
Free baggage allowance for each passenger (including checked and hand/carry-on baggage) is listed as followed:

Passengers with infant ticket do not have free baggage allowance.
Within the aircraft capability, passenger’s exceeded baggage should travel with passenger on a same aircraft.
Passengers should pay for exceeded baggage and generally, 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) costs 1.5% of a full economy-class airfare (one way, adult ticket).
The above items are valid for domestic flight in China.
