Brief information on Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area  

Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area is situated in Songpan County of Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province. Located at the foot of Xuebaoding, it covers an area of 700 square kilometers and is composed of the Muni Valley and Huanglong areas. Huanglong mainly includes the attractions of Huanglong Valley, Danyun Gorge and Xuebaoding, while Muni Valley primarily contains Zhaga Waterfall and Erdao Lake.

In addition to the unique, charming and secluded natural scenery, Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area is also famous for its rare karst landscape. Seen from above, nearly the whole valley is covered with calcium carbonates, resembling a yellow dragon flying down from the snowy peaks of the Min Mountains and winding through the lush forest. Huanglong’s four wonders are considered to be its colorful lakes, snowy mountains, valleys and forest. The area is also home to protected animal and plant species including the giant panda and the golden monkey.

Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area has a temperate plateau and sub-frigid monsoon climate, with moist and cold features. Winter is long while summer is short, so the autumn comes nearly after the spring. The hottest month is July, with an average temperature of 17 ℃, while January is the coldest month with an average temperature of 3 ℃. The best time to visit the area is between April and November.
