Brief information on Badaling Great Wall

The Great Wall is a symbol of China and is one of the greatest structures in the world. It is renowned as one of the eight great wonders of the world. It was constructed in 1502 and listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987.  

Badaling Great Wall is located in Yanqing County, approximately 70 kilometers northwest from downtown Beijing. It was once considered an important military fortification. In the Qin Dynasty, in order to prevent intrusion from northern nomadic tribes and unify the nation, Qinshihuang, the first emperor of Qin Dynasty, began construction of the Great Wall. Most parts of the Badaling Great Wall were built and reinforced during this period. Standing 3,741 meters long and 8 meters high, (in fact, measuring 15 meters at its highest point), it is easy to see why the Badaling portion of the Great Wall was considered to be so important to the country’s defense in ancient times.  

As the earliest part of the Great Wall opened to the public, Badaling Great Wall has attracted visitors from all over the world, who marvel at the magnificence of its structure and the beauty of the surrounding panorama. It is an excellent choice for visitors to learn more about China through one of the county’s most iconic symbols.
