Brief information on Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum

Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum is located in the south of Tiananmen Square, between the Monument to the People’s Heroes and Zhengyang Gate. It was built to remember Chairman Mao, the founder and the first Chairman of the People’s Republic of China. It provides people with a place to show their respects to Chairman Mao.
Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum, which covers an area of 57,000 square meters, was built in November, 1976 and finished in May, 1977. The Memorial Hall is a square building with light yellow walls and a tumbler roof. The Memorial Hall is 260 meters long from south to north and 220 meters wide from west to east. The commemoration hall is located in the center of the yard.
Chairman Mao, the founder of the People’s Republic of China, made a great contribution to the foundation and development of China. He has been commemorated in various forms throughout China. Many Chinese come to pay their respects and many visitors come to learn more about one of modern China’s outstanding figures.
