Brief information on Fragrant Hills Park  

Fragrant Hills Park is located on the eastern section of the Western Hills, more than 20 kilometers from Beijing, and covers an area of 160 hectares. It is a large forest park with the characteristics of imperial gardens, where the natural landscape is combined with cultural relics.
The park was first built in 1186 during the Jin Dynasty and was later extended to a large scale in the Yuan and Ming dynasties. In 1745, Emperor Qianlong ordered the addition of many new halls, pagodas, memorial archways and leisure pavilions and changed the park’s name to Garden of Peacefulness.

Unfortunately, in 1860 and 1900, lots of relics located in the Fragrant Hills were damaged by foreign troops. Since 1949, with the restoration and development of the past half-century by the Chinese government, Fragrant Hills Park has been regarded as one of the ten famous parks in Beijing.

There are three main routes to explore the park. The first one is to go along the north route, where visitors can see Glasses Lake, Cascade Cave, Jianxin Pavilion and Zhao Temple etc. Along the middle route, one can find Tingxue, Purple Mist, Yuhua Villa, and Incense-Burner Peak etc. Along the south route there are Green Lake, Dai Shui Ping Shan, Green Pavilion, the Red Leaves Scenic Area, relics of Fragrant Hills Temple, Happiness Garden etc. Visitors can take a cable car to the top of Incense-Burner Peak while leisurely enjoying the beautiful scenery, creating a memorable Beijing experience.
