Front Gate, also called Zhengyang Gate, includes an archery tower and a gate tower. Built in 1439, the Front Gate is a fort-style brickwork architecture that is effectively a city gate. The four-story building has openings to the east, south and west with a total of 94 windows for arrow shooting in ancient times.
Factually, the term Front Gate indicates a region that nowadays radiates out to Zheyang Gate, Zhubaoshi Rd. and Dazhalan, which is a notable commercial area in Beijing. The busy trade that occurs in the Front Gate area originated in the Ming Dynasty. And in 1900, large quantities of foreign products swarmed into Beijing, which was the peak time for business around the Front Gate.
