Lying in the valley 20 kilometers north of the central area of Changping District, Juyongguan is a notable and strategic pass along the line formed by the Great Wall. As early as the spring and Autumn Period, the state of Yan used Juyongguan as a stronghold, and until Ming Dynasty, it still occupied the vital position in the nation’s defense system. The section of the Great Wall at Juyongguan, we now know, was constructed in Ming Dynasty. It extends to Mt. Cuiping in the east and to Mt. Jinju in the west, with comprehensive military facilities including watch towers. After the Qing Dynasty, Juyongguan was left unused, but it still presents a majestic sight even today.
