Brief information on Tanzhe Temple  

Located in the western part of Beijing, 30 kilometers away from the center of the city, Tanzhe Temple covers an area of 121 hectares in total, which includes the inner temple, outer temple, a forest and a field, all administered by Tanzhe Temple.

With a history of 1700 years, Tanzhe Temple was first built in Western Jin Period, and it was first called Jiafu Temple. Because there is a Dragon Spring behind the temple, and there are ‘zhe’ trees on the mountain, it is known by local people as Tanzhe Temple. It is said that in Qing Dynasty, the Forbidden City was built in imitation of Tanzhe Temple. There are 943 houses and 638 halls in Tanzhe Temple, which have preserved the architectural character of Ming and Qing dynasties. Tanzhe Temple is the largest ancient temple in suburban Beijing, and the whole architecture displays the aesthetic principles of Chinese ancient architecture.

Nowadays, Tanzhe Temple attracts a large number of travelers with its numerous cultural relics and beautiful scenery; in addition, many modern service facilities have been constructed by the government, so it is very convenient for travelers to visit here, for there are ample facilities for every need, covering transportation, accommodation, shopping and recreation.
