Beijing has been the capital of several of China’s historical dynasties. Beijing presents a majestic physical and cultural landscape, an imperial city with grand palaces, gardens, temples and mausoleums all in perfect order.

Of Beijing’s palaces, the first to be introduced should of course be Forbidden City. As the imperial palace of Ming and Qing dynasties, it is the largest palace complex in China and even in the world. Temple of Heaven is a well-preserved example of ancient sacrificial architecture. And the Ming Tombs, housing 13 emperors, is the largest ancient tomb complex. In addition, Great Wall, listed in as a world heritage site, Lama Temple and Tiananmen Square are popular destinations for visitors as well. The recommended destination for natural scenery is Fragrant Hills Park.

Beijing is famed for its long history and grandiosity. Only when you spend time exploring the ancient palaces and pavilions, and rambling through the hutongs, will you be fully alive to the spirit of Beijing .
