The Forbidden City is the largest palatial complex in China and the royal home to the emperors of Ming and Qing dynasties. With an area of over 720,000m2 and 9999 rooms and halls, it is rectangular in shape and has 4 gates one on each side. The complex which was off limits to common people for over 500 years houses buildings such as the Palace of Supreme Harmony and the Palace of Heavenly Purity, and in each other corner of the Forbidden City there is a Guard Tower. Inside all the buildings are showing the royal taste of designs and craftsmanship, and dragon designs everywhere that symbolizes dignity and respectability of the emperor and his royal family in Chinese culture. Not only is the Forbidden City the emperor’s living quarter but also the country’s political centre as all important decisions were made by the emperor within the complex on the advice from his political power ring and the central think tank around him. Early in the morning all officials would be gathering in one of the big hall forwarding messages and information to the emperor and discussing how to manage the country well. Now it has become one of the hottest tourist attractions in Beijing for international tourists who like to experience the ancient Chinese culture.
