Brief information on Baoguo Temple  

Located in E’mei Mountain, Baoguo Temple was the first temple to be built on E’mei Mountain, and served as the headquarters of the E’mei Mountain Buddhism Association and the Buddhist activity center of E’mei Mountain. Among the temples in E’mei Mountain, Baoguo Temple is the starting point of the Emei Mountain tour and is regarded as the gateway to E’mei Mountain.

Covering an area of about 60 mu (about 10 acres), the entire temple was built in style of the classical Chinese courtyard. The temple was built leaning towards the mountain with four buildings, each one taller than the next. There is a china Buddha sculpture under the sutra depository in the temple, which is vivid and graceful. The sculpture was dates from the Ming Dynasty, and is a verifiably valuable antique. In the frontal hall, there is a 7 meters high purple copper tower, another precious antique.

The tower has fourteen stories, and more than 4,700 Buddhist figures were cast on the body of the tower. In the gate of the Baoguo Temple, there is newly built pavilion where a large, Ming Dynasty bell hangs.  The bell weighs more than 10 tons and is 2.3 meters high. Upon being struck, the bell can be heard far and wide.

Baoguo Temple is a great place, and many Buddhist festivals are held there every year. Meanwhile, many Chinese leaders, foreigners and Buddhism societies visit Baoguo Temple regularly, and enjoy an excellent welcome. The temple certainly leaves a lasting impression on all who visit devotees and travelers alike.
