Brief information on Wangjiang Park  

Located on the south bank of the Jin River in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, Wangjiang Park is a great place of interest in which to relax oneself. The former park consists of the towers and houses built for a great female poet called Xue Tao during Tang Dynasty, and then was set aside and given the name Wangjiang Park.

The most splendid building in Wangjiang Park is the Chongli Building, which stands 39 meters high. Situated on the bank of the river, the tower was given the name “Wangjianglou” by the local people, which means ‘to look at the river’. There are four stories, the upper two octagonal and the lower two square. The ridge of each story has exquisite birds and animal statues made from clay, plus engravings of human figures. There is a Yinshi Building, apparently used, as its Chinese translation suggests, for writing and reading poems. The statue of Xue Tao lies in the deep woods in the park, which was built in 1984. The statue is three meters high, made from white marble and surrounded by water and lawns. Her tomb is also located in these woods alongside fences and bamboo. The bamboo in the park is famous due to Xue Tao’s love of the plant when she was alive. And many rare bamboo species can be seen in the woods, each with their own characteristics.
