| China has a continental and seasonal climate and with a vast territory, weather in different parts of china differs significantly. Most areas of China are in temperate zone, while the southern areas tropical or subtropical zone and the northern areas frigid zone. For central China, winter (from early January to March) is short and not as cold as the northern areas. The temperature seldom reaches the freezing point, and snow is rare. However, summer (from April through September or October) is long and the weather is hot as well as humid.
Winter in the northern parts of China, starting in December and ending at the end of March, is long and cold, and the temperature is often below zero. Summer is from May through August with extremely hot weather.
Generally speaking, it is wetter in south China and days with hot temperatures are longer. Like central China, winter in the South is short and warmer. Rainy season from April through September coincides with the period of time of the highest temperature and humidity. Typhoon season along the southeast coast of China is from July through September.
The weather in northwest China is typically arid and dry, which is more like central Asia rather than eastern Asia, while winter in Tibetan Plateau can be very bitter and fierce with whipping wind and temperature in summer is changeable even within a day. | |
