Only major non-Chinese credit cards such as MasterCard, Visa, American Express, JCB and Dinner’s Club are accepted in large or medium cities to pay bills in hotels with ratings of three or more stars, to purchase things in major shopping centers, retailers and supermarkets and to buy meal in large fancy restaurants. Beyond the above situations, you’d better carry cash Chinese currency, especially if you go to small cities or rural areas.

Most of the credit cards accepted internationally can be used in China, such as MasterCard, Visa, American Express, JCB and Dinner’s Club, which can only be used in large shopping malls, department stores, hotels and restaurants in major cities of China.

There will be no trouble for you to find an ATM service in big cities, while it may be somewhat difficult to get one in remote areas. Therefore, make sure that you carry enough cash if you go to those places.
