Chongqing is Subtropics moist weather, with the two-season monsoonal variations typical of South Asia. The annual average temperature here is 17 to 18.8 centigrade and the relative humidity is about 80%. Chongqing is taken as one of the Four Furnaces. Its summers are among the hottest in China. The temperature can be as high as 43°C in August. Winters are fairly mild but damp. Chongqing can be foggy sometimes and has a nickname of Foggy City for its basin terrain, humid weather and suffering from heavy air pollution. However, the city government tried to improve the air quality in recent years and got some achievements.
