Brief information on Bita Lake & Shudu Lake  

Bita Lake and Shudu Lake, located within 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) of each other are the two major attractions of Pudacuo National Park. The two lakes are recognized as ’The pearls on the Plateau’.
”Bita" means in Tibetan a place with a dense oak forest and "Bitahai" means a quiet lake. Bita Lake lies 30 kilometers east of Shangri-La, with an altitude of 3538 meters. It is 3 kilometers in length and 0.3 kilometers in breadth covering a water area of 159 hectares. Surrounded by mountains covered with ancient pines, oaks and rhododendrons, Bita Lake is just like an emerald in the heart of the mountain.
Shudu Lake is located on the north part of the Park, and 36 kilometers northeast of Shangri-La. It is 2.8 kilometers from east to west and 0.7 kilometers from south to north, covering an area of 120 hectares. Boasting the largest fresh water lake on the Diqing plateau, Shudu Lake is surrounded by numerous kinds of trees and flowers with dark coniferous forest at its east and south bank, fir spruce and oak forest at its north bank circled by silver birth and kinds of flowers like azalea, anemone and primrose. Besides, the lake is also the home to many animals like Bears, deer and pheasants.

Transportation: Although Bitahai Lake is only 30 km (19.88 miles) from Shangri-La, the bus will only take you as far as Shuangqiao. From there you can either hire a horse or walk to Bitahai Lake.
