In 140 BC, Liu Che, the emperor Han Wudi, brought war home to the Huns. Han Wudi ordered the construction of several parts of the Great Wall. This resulted in the extension of territory up to present day Mount Yinshan of Inner Mongolia.
Huo Qubing, Emperor Han Wudi’s general, pushed back the Huns and in 121 BC he secured the Hexi Corridor, the pass to the Western Region. A subsequent Hexi wall was constructed that joined the eastern terminus of an older network of walls. Forts between Jiuquan City and Yumenguan Pass made up parts of the Great Wall. Around 101 BC the Chinese built the section from Yumenguan Pass to Luobu Po of Xinjiang. Altogether Han Wudi built a defensive wall of over thousand kilometers to secure the passage to the Western Region.
