Brief information on Yangguan Pass

Yangguan Pass, also known as the Southern Pass, is located in Nanhu Village, along the Hexi Corridor and 75 kilometers southwest of Dunhuang City in Gansu Province.  Yangguan Pass was originally built by Emperor Wu in the Western Han Dynasty as one of the two most important passes protecting Dunhuang from invasion from the west (the other pass is Yumen Pass).

Yuangguan Pass has witnessed the prosperity of Silk Road. In the Song and Ming Dynasties, due to the decline of the Silk Road, the pass was generally forgotten by people. For years and years, the flowing dunes have eroded the pass into a broken beacon tower, standing alone in the boundless desert. Around the remains, you cannot even see the walls because they were all eroded by the wind and buried under earth.

Today’s Yangguan Pass is not only a historic place but also the hometown of tasty grapes. Come here and appreciate the lonely beauty of the effects of time upon the constructions of man, enjoy the natural scenery in the combination of oasis, desert and snow peaks, and taste the juicy fruit.

*You can download the bilingual note to show it to a taxi driver or someone else to find your way to Yangguan Pass if you plan to visit Yangguan Pass and have language problems.
