Chaozhou Overview:  Located at the east of Guangdong Province, Chaozhou borders Fujian in the east, Jieyang in the west, Shantou in the south, Meizhou in the north and on the verge of China South Sea. Chaozhou is the historic and cultural city in China and there is a saying about Chaozhou: If you go to Guangdong without stop at Chaozhou, it is a biggest shame. Covering a land area of 3,116.12 square kilometers and a sea area of 533 square kilometers, Chaozhou has a population of 2.5 million.

Chaozhou Climate & Weather:  By the influence of subtropical oceanic monsoon climate, the temperature is relatively high in July and August. Taking a view at the average temperature of a whole year, the temperature is around 21℃. The rainfall volume in Chaozhou is sufficient and the climate is mild with evergreen. The best time to go to Chaozhou is at September an October.

Language in Chaozhou:  Chaozhou has its own dialect which belongs to Guangdong dialect. It’s not easy to understand for Mandarin speakers.

Chaozhou Transportation:

By Air:  Currently, there is not any airport in Chaozhou and passengers can take flight at Shantou Waisha International Airport. It is only about 30 kilometers between Chaozhou and Shantou Waisha International Airport.

By Train:  The train traffic in Chaozhou is convenient. Guang (Guangzhou)-Mei (Meizhou)-Shan (Shantou) Railway runs through the whole city and takes Chaozhou in the traffic net of eastern Guangdong Province. It is convenient to take train from Chaozhou to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Wuchang and Jiujiang. There are also three trains operating from Guangzhou to Chaozhou.

By Bus:  There are many buses operating from Chaozhou to Shantou to link Chaozhou and Shantou closely. And the buses from Chaozhou to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Fujian Province, and Jiangxi Province are also available.

Chaozhou Food:  Chaozhou cuisine is one of the most important branches of Yue cuisine together with Dongjiang cuisine and Guangzhou cuisine. The material chosen is strict and the taste is light, stressing on the origin taste of the materials. Local delicacies include Roast Conch, Thick Mushroom Mustard Pot and Beef with Barbecue Sauce.

Tourist Attractions:  Chaozhou has a lot of tourism resources, among which the major attractions are Guangji Bridge, which is one of the four ancient bridges in China, regarding as the first open-close styled bridge in the world, Xu Emperor’s Son-in-Law Mansion in Song Dynasty, Kaiyuan Temple, which is the Buddhism activity center in east of Guangdong Province from Tang Dynasty, Bijia Mountain Song Owen Remain, which reflects the flourishing of ceramic industry in Chaozhou of Song Dynasty, and Danfu Cultural Relic which is the largest Buddhism Palace of Thai Style as well as Yilue hanggong Temple, which reflects the woodcarving skills in Chaozhou.
