Meizhou Overview:  Meizhou is a historic and cultural city in the northeast of Guangdong Province and it borders Fujian Province and Jiangxi Province. Meizhou wins its name for its abundant plum blossom and it is also called “Hakka City” because most residents in Meizhou are Hakkas. Covering an area of 15,800 square kilometers, Meizhou has a population of 4.9892 million, which is one of the largest agglomerations for Hakkas.

Meizhou Climate & Weather:  Belonging to subtropical monsoon climate, Meizhou has short winter and long summer with long time sunshine and abundant rainfall. Located at the inland of Guangdong Province, the rainfall season in Meizhou is from Apr. to Sep. and the yearly average temperature is around 21℃.

Language in Meizhou:  Meizhou has its own dialect which belongs to Guangdong dialect. It’s not easy to understand for Mandarin speakers.

Meizhou Transportation:   Located at the northeast par of Guangdong province, Meizhou borders Fujian Province and Jiangxi Province to the north. And therefore, it is of great importance in geography.

By Air:  Meixian Airport is only 4 kilometers away from the center of the downtown area and the flights between Guangzhou and Meizhou operating every day and the regular flights to Hong Kong are also available.

By Train:  The Guang (Guangzhou)-Mei (Meizhou)-Shan (Shantou) Railway traverses the east and west of Meizhou and the Mei-kan Railway traverses the south and north of the city. The trains from Meizhou to Guangzhou, Fuzhou, Kunming, Shenzhen, Xiamen and Shantou are opened for use currently.

By Bus:  No.205, No.206 national Highway and Mei-He Highway, Mei-Shan Highway are interacting here in Meizhou and thus formed a road transportation system covering Qinhuangdao, Yantai, Guangzhou and Shantou. Currently, the bus company in Meizhou has already opened the routes to Kowloon in Hong Kong, Fuzhou and Xiamen in Fujian Province, Ganzhou and Ruijin in Jiangxi Province, Shaodong and Hanshou in Hunan Province as well as Ningbo and Wuhua in Zhejiang Province, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhuhai.

City Transportation:  There are together 10 bus lines in Meizhou from 06:30am to 19:30pm everyday and the interval time is 10 minutes.

The flag-down fare for taxi in Meizhou is CNY 4, CNY1.6 per kilometer after the flag-down miles.

Meizhou Food:  Meizhou is the agglomeration of Hakkas and therefore the cuisine in Meizhou handed down the traditional cuisine from Hakkas. Hakka cuisine is famous for its heavy taste and excellent cooing duration, and ranging in the most famous three cuisines with Chaozhou cuisine and Guangzhou cuisine. Local delicacies include Baked Chicken in Salt, Beancurd in Stuffed with Minced Pork as well as Preserved Pork and Vegetables.

And Hakka Weilong House, which is one of the five largest vernacular dwellings in China.
