Brief information on Lianhua Hill Tourist Resort  

A key attraction in Guangzhou, Lianhua Hill Tourist Resort is situated 108 meters above sea level on the Shizi River. Forty-eight low, red sandstone hills make up the resort, and on one of these hills in particular is a rock resembling a lotus - this gives the resort its name of Lianhua (Lotus) Hill.

In ancient times, Lianhua Hill was a quarry. After being mined for several hundreds of years, Lianhua Hill has formed unique natural and man-made scenery with cliffs and peculiarly shaped rocks and caves. The main sights include the Lotus Stone, Swallow Rock, Baxian Rock, Feiying Rock, the Southern Gate of Heaven, a stone corridor, stone peak, the Unfathomable Cave, the White Lotus Pool, Guan-Yin Rock, and the Immortal Bridge

There are also some historical sites on Lianhua Hill, such as Lianhua Tower, which was built in the fortieth year of Emperor Wanli’s reign (in 1612), and Lianhua City, which was built in the third year of Emperor Kangxi’s reign (in 1664) and occupies an area of about 10,000 square meters.

In recent years, many tourist service facilities have gradually been established such as a holiday centre, dance hall, some restaurants and cafés, BBQ sites, campsites, a race ground, a fishing place, water park, and even a department store.
