Brief information on Mausoleum of the Nanyue King  

The Mausoleum of the Nanyue king is located in Xianggang Hill and has a history dating back more than 2,100 years. Discovered in 1983, this mausoleum marks the place where the Second King of the Nanyue State, Zhao Mei, was buried. The Museum of the Nanyue king was built on the location of the mausoleum and consists of two sections, the Mausoleum Protection District and the Integrated Exhibition Building.

The coffin chamber lies 20 meters below Xianggang Hill, and was constructed from more than 500 red sandstones. The front and back parts of the complex are connected by a stone door. The front part includes 3 rooms, while the back part has 4 rooms. The remains of Zhao Mei, covered in a suit of jade, were placed in the centre of the back part. Ten iron swords, nine seals, and numerous jade carving ornaments are among the funerary objects, but the overall number of unearthed relics is over 1,000. A lot of these relics are displayed in the Integrated Exhibition Building, a three storey museum, which was opened in 1988 in the east of the Mausoleum Protection District.
