Brief information on Hongfu Temple  

Hongfu Temple is located in Qianling Park, about 15 km away from downtown Guiyang. With a history of 300 years, this temple may be nothing among the famous ancient temples in China. However, it is the most famous Buddhist site in Guizhou province.

Hongfu Temple was founded by Monk Chisong in the eleventh year of Kangxi’s region of Qing Dynasty (1672). At the beginning, the temple was very poor, just no more than a small hut. However, Chisong believed that it should become a reversed shrine. Then under the help of local officials and residents, a majestic temple was completed and named “Hongfu Temple”. "Hongfu” is a Chinese word which means ‘to develop Buddha’s spirit and to benefit mankind’. From then on, Hongfu Temple was to become the most significant Buddhist temple in the area.  

The temple complex is comprised of a number of halls including Heavenly King Hall, Kwan-yin Hall, Daxiongbaodian Hall, and Sutra Collection Pavilion. The architectural style is majestic. In the Heavenly King Hall, you will see statues of Maitreya Buddha and the four Heavenly Kings. And the sutra steles and colorful paintings are on the wall of the hall. The Kwan-yin Hall holds a 32-armed Bodhisattva. In the Daxiongbaodian Hall, you can see gilded statues of Sakyamuni, Wenshu Bodhisattva, and Puxian Bodhisattva as well as 18 arhats. There are also many precious paintings and calligraphies in the Sutra Collection Pavilion that are exceptionally valuable.

In addition to the splendid halls, Hongfu Temple is also embellished with artistic galleries, springs, and pools.
