At the Miao villages of Kaili, most of the people reside in a typical architecture-Wooden Stilt House. The Miao people live in the high and cold mountainous area which is wet and foggy and therefore not suitable for accommodation. Therefore, being always surrounded by mountain and water, the Miao people constructed a dry wooden building named “Wooden stilt House (Diao Jiao Lou in Chinese) which could provide good ventilation.
The wooden stilt house is raised over the surface of the soil or a body of water. It is a hut with sharp angled roofs and wooden floor boards. The height is from 7meters to 14 meters. Generally, each house has three storeys with the first floor for sundries and feeding livestock; second for people living and third for storing paddy.
