Guiyang Food - What and Where to eat in Guiyang

The food of Guiyang includes Qian cuisine and local snacks. Qian (Guizhou) Cuisine embraces spiciness, including the heat of chillis and a more numbing spiciness: these are two indispensable elements in Guiyang’s food. The numbing spiciness refers to the condiment made from refined red pepper. Suan Tang Yu (Sour Soup Fish), another typical Guiyang dish, is delicious. Originating in the Miao region, this dish has become a typical dish for Guiyang.

Siwawa (Sliced Vegetable Baby) could be the cheapest snack in Guiyang. It’s called ‘baby’ because the shape of this snack is just like a baby in swaddling clothes. It has an interesting name and also an interesting cooking method: a piece of bean curd is cut horizontally and filled with vegetables and meat, then toasted until the color turns golden and sprinkled with sesame oil and other condiments.
