Qiantang River, originally named Zhejiang River, is the longest river in Zhejiang Province, with a total length of 605 kilometres. It stretches from the west all the way to Hangzhou Bay in the east, and plays a significant role in the regions water transportation requirements. In the coastal area historic sites such as Six Harmonious Pagoda and White Tower as well as the newly-built theme park Song City form a vast and imposing landscape. In addition, the very tide of the Qintang River is considered a natural wonder and is caused by the gravitational pull of celestial bodies as well as the peculiar bottleneck shape of Hangzhou Bay.
Qiantang River Bore is a majestic site and invites comparison with the surging tide of the mighty Amazon River. When the tide swells, the bore often rises to a height of 30 feet and announces itself with thunderous aplomb. The best time to observe the Qiantang River Bore is on the 18th day of the eighth month every year, according to Chinese lunar calendar. If you standing looking outwards from the Six Harmonies Pagoda, you will command the finest view of the mighty river, spectacular tide and the stunning surrounding landscape.
