The Red Carp Pond, located west of the South Su Causeway, is the centre for viewing the fish in Flower Harbor Park, and is one of the famous “Ten Views of West Lake”.
Originally Flower Harbor was a private garden near the Flower Family Hill, hence its name. Later, flowers and trees flourished, water was added to the pool and fish collected. Numerous carps live and play in Red Carp Pond, attracting thousands of tourists each year. Covering an area of more than 20 hectares (about 49.42 acres), Red Carp Pond consists of 5 scenic spots;Red Carp Pond, Peony Park, Flower Harbor, a lawn, and a grove.
Red Carp Pond is located in the middle of the park’s southern end where tourists can enjoy the swarms of carp whilst leaning on the rails of a zigzaging bridge. Peony Pavilion is situated in a unique peony park, west of the Red Carp Pond. On the path to the pavilion stands an ancient plum tree, contrasting beautifully with the blooms of the peonies.
