Covering a circumference area of 400 kilometers, the famous Chaohu Lake situated in Hefei is one of the five largest fresh-water lakes in China and is a national level scenic spot. It is renowned as the Oriental Geneva because of its convenient location in the Golden Triangle of Anhui. Since lake is in the shape of bird’s nest it got the name Chaohu Lake (Nest Lake)..It is said that Chaohu Lake was once a city called Chaozhou. Once upon a time, an old woman called Jiao had a bad dream that the city would sink soon. She warned those people who lived in the city and led them to safety. In remembrance of this great lady, the lake was called Jiao Lake later on. The lake has numerous tourist sites like Laoshan Island, Zhongmiao Temple, as well as three famous hot springs - Bantang, Tang Pool and Fragrant Spring, four national forest parks and five water-eroded caves.
