Brief information on Lamma Island  

Lamma Island is the third biggest island in Hong Kong, and ranks next to Lantau Island and Hong Kong Island. Due to its proximity to Hong Kong’s downtown area, Lamma Island has become a popular resort for weekend relaxation. It takes around half an hour to drive from downtown Hong Kong to Lamma Island, where Chinese and Western cultures merge. The clean air, beautiful coastal scenery and delicious seafood attract a lot of tourists, and make the island more colourful. In recent years, many urban inhabitants and foreigners have relocated to Lamma Island, underscoring its enduring popularity. The bicycle is the main form of transportation on the island, and, in contrast to downtown Hong Kong, bungalows predominate rather than high-rise buildings.

Young Shue Wan is a village in the northwestern part of Lamma Island. Besides this, other villages like Sok Kwu Wan, Sham Wan, Hung Sing Ya Wan and Lu xu Cheng Wan are dotted around the island. Tourists  can visit craftwork stores, bars, small European and Asian  restaurants and Tin Hau Temple, with its one-hundred-year history, as well as   an exhibition of old whalebones.
