Brief information on Nanping Village

Situated in the southwest of Yixian county, Nanping Village is an ancient town with a stretching nearly a thousand years. This village is famed for its well-preserved ancestral houses; there are over 300 well-preserved buildings of Ming and Qing dynasties. The houses are simple in structure but elegant in style. At the southern part of the village lies the famous Mt. Linli, the sight of the main battlefields during the Three Kingdom Period. Nanping Village is also a favourite sight for cinema, the famous Chinese movie "Ju Dou" directed by Zhang Yimou was shot here in 1990s among numerous other movies since, hence the name “China's film and video village”. The volumes of visitors from different parts of China that pour into this ancient village have developed the local tourism industry, and the ancestral halls have now become national key cultural relic protection sites.
This village is renowned for its mysterious atmosphere. The relic "Tao’s Genealogy" was found near to the village, and it is almost certain that this ancient village is actually the hometown of the famous poet Tao Yuanming.
