Located in the south, and about seven kilometers away from Jiayuguan City, First Fire Tower of Great Wall is reputed as the world’s first frustum, or cut-off pyramid, which symbolizes the west starting point of the Ming Great Wall.
Built in the year of 1539 during the Ming Dynasty, the frustum is like a square pyramid with a flat top. Through hundreds of year’s weather exposure, some walls have been damaged, which makes the present frustum steeper, leaning to the cliff. Fortunately, the local government has invested amounts of money recent years to build a stretch of ancient style wall as a fence to better preserve the precious relics. Standing on the tower, visitors can experience the grandeur of an ancient civilization while appreciating the marvelous view of the vast Gobi.
