Brief information on Kuqa Mosque

Located on a mound and 4 kilometers from the new Kuqa city, the Kuqa Mosque is the second largest mosque in Xinjiang, right after the Id Kah Mosque in Kashgar.
The original mosque was built in the 15th century with earth when Islam became popular in the area, and was rebuilt in the 17th century in wooden style which was burnt down in 1918. The present mosque made of bricks was built in 1931.
The first gate of the mosque is 18.3 meters high, built with blue brick. The mosque is made up of Xuanli Minaret, a great hall, an unknown tomb, the scripture-learning hall, the religious court, etc., covering a large area of 1,165,000 square meters. The worshipping hall of the mosque is as large as 1500 square meters which could accommodate 3,000 people.
