Five Springs Mountain Park (also known as Wuquan Gongyuan) is situated near Gaolan Mountain (Gaolan Shan) to the south of Lanzhou City. The park takes its name from Hui, Ganlu, Juyue, Mozi and Mengwu Springs. With a history of more than 2000 years, the park is centered on the five famous springs and several historical Buddhist buildings. These buildings include Chongqing Temple, which dates back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the Thousand-Buddha Pavilion, as well as Confucian, Buddhist and Taoist temples.
Five Springs Mountain became a park in 1955, and it now attracts locals as well as international travelers. Its forests are lush and the environment is quietly beautiful. Inside Chongqing Temple, there sits an ancient iron clock that is three meters tall and dates back to 1202.
Each year on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month, Five Springs Mountain Park holds temple fairs, flower shows, plant displays and various activities based around local customs. Buddhists travel from many different regions to make pilgrimage to the mountain temple. Each year, a colorful lantern show also takes place during Spring Festival.
