Standing at 8848 meters, Mt. Everest, the main peak of Himalayas, is the highest peak in the world. It is called Qomolangma in Tibetan, which means “Saint Mother”, or “Holy Mother”. It stands at the border of the Himalayas between China and Nepal, and boasts a perpetual coat of snow. The snow peak radiates silver light year after year, with its waist hidden in the clouds. The mountain attracts many visitors-especially to the base camp, with some hoping fulfil their dream of climbing the mountain. The best time to visit Mt. Everest is from April to June, although this is typically the busiest time.
The Base Camp of Mt. Qomolangma is a protected area which is dedicated to protecting the environment of the main area of Mt Everest. It stands at 5,200 meters, and is 19 kilometres from Mt. Everest itself. Buses taking travellers to base camp must terminate at Rongbuk Monastery and the intrepid travellers can choose to travel the final seven miles to base camp either on foot or horseback. There are camps along the way for visitors to have a rest including inns, tea houses, shops and even a post office. There is solar panel for illumination. After resting, visitors can continue on their way to Mt. Everest.
*You can download the bilingual note to show it to a taxi driver or someone else to find your way to Mt. Everest if you plan to visit Mt. Everest and have language problems.
