Brief information on Tombs of the Tibetan Kings  

According to the historical records, Tombs of the Tibetan Kings is the largest and well preserved tombs of Tubo Tibetan Kings so far. It was established from the early seventh century to the late ninth century for more than three hundred years.
Located about 90 kilometers from Tsetang, the tombs is 2076 meters long from east to west and 1407 meters wide from south to north, occupying an area of 3050,000 square meters with an average altitude of 3700 meters. Buried here are 16 kings from the 29th Tsanpo to the last (the 40th), and their sons, wives and concubines. So far, the archaeologists have found 21 tombs here, and only six of them have named owners. Among them the most remarkable one is the tomb of King Songtsan Gampo.
Tomb of King Songtsan Gampo is the main tomb of the whole tombs with its door to the southwest( the hometown of Sakyamuni) to show his piety to Buddhism. The tomb is 100 meters in length and 13 meters in height. On the top of it is a temple where the statues of King Songtsan Gampo and his two concubines, two ministers and some Buddha are worshiped.
