Known as "the roof of the world", the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau boasts two "World’s Greatest’s". One is Zhumulangma (Mount Everest), the highest mountain in the world. The other is the world’s longest canyon, Yaluzhangbu Grand Canyon. Yaluzhangbu used to be a treacherous canyon hidden in inner Tibet. However, it has already become a world-class scenic spot and a challenging destination for adventurous travellers in the region.
Yaluzhangbu River, lying 3000 meters above sea level, is without doubt the highest river in the world. The lower reaches of the river circle the Himalayas, forming a peculiar u-shape, cutting a 504-kilometer-long canyon through the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, which ranks as the longest canyon in the world - 56.3 kilometers longer than the USA’s famous Grand Canyon! The average depth of the Yaluzhangbu canyon is about 5,000 meters, and over 5,382 meters at its deepest point.
The exceptional ecological systems are home to a wide range of life. Travelers here can see a variety of rare species, like the moss, the Yunnan Iron cedar, the Bangladesh tiger, the bear monkey and the fern erne tree. The Yaluzhangbu Grand Canyon truly deserves to be called the "the plants museum" and "animal kingdom".
