Lhasa Train
The Tibet Railway is another miracle in the transportation history of Tibet which is the section between Golmud and Lhasa belonging to the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. The Qinghai-Tibet Railway is composed of two sections: Qinghai-Golmud and Golmud-Lhasa. In 1986, the section of Qinghai-Golmud was launched, and from then on travelers could not only avoid too much tiredness caused by traveling by bus, but also have a good chance to experience the unique scenery along the trip. Since the Golmud-Lhasa section was opened on July lst, 2006, the city of Lhasa has formally bided farewell to the history without railway. Now travelers can arrive at Lhasa by train from major cites of China like Beijing, Xian, Chongqing, Chengdu, Lanzhou etc.
Lhasa Railway Station is located at the Liuwu Town in Lhasa City with the altitude of over 3,600 meters. The station has altogether six railway platforms and could offer services for ten trains in and out the station at same time. Every day, its passenger throughput is up to 2,700. Small tips: The station is just 20 kilometers away from Potala Palace, and travelers can take bus NO.91 from train station to Lhasa downtown area.
