Situated at the bottom of a small basin surrounded by mountains, the city of Lhasa enjoys a mild climate, without either a freezing winter or an unbearably hot summer. The annual average daily temperature is about 8 degree Celsius. It enjoys the reputation of being a “sunshine city”, as it enjoys about 3,000 hours of sunlight every year. Lhasa's annual precipitation is approximately 500 millimetres (20 in) with the most rainfall in July, August and September. Summer and autumn are the most comfortable times in Lhasa and therefore the best times for travelling.
