Brief information on Black Dragon Pool  

Located at the foot of Elephant Mountain in the north of the city, the Black Dragon Pool is a part of Jade Spring Park. If you walk on the Square Street along the bank of the Jade River, the Black Dragon Pool lies one kilometer ahead. The water is bubbling out from the cracks of rocks, which fills a pool with an area of 40,000 square meters close to the mountains. There are also some trees and flowers, ancient architecture with Chinese traditional designs scattering around the pool, which adds up more to its beauty.

Lijiang Black Dragon Pool Park, also known as Dragon King Temple, sits between the north of Elephant Hill and the Black Dragon Pool. The Black Dragon Pool was built in 1737 during the Qing Dynasty, and then the name “Black Dragon Pool” was given because the Dragon King Temple was referred to by several emperors of Qing Dynasty as the black dragon king’s dwellings.

Black Dragon Pool is so well known that it is listed as one of Chinese Favorable Springs and Chinese Attractions.

There are many Chinese ancient buildings were built during Ming and Qing Dynasties. The Dragon King Temple, including an opera stage and Deyue Tower, is the main building aside the Black Dragon Pool, which runs along through several classical, peaceful but unique buildings. Facing to the west, this temple is a rectangular-shaped dwelling with a gate and wing-rooms on each side, and a lobby sitting right in the middle.
