Liuzhou is China’s historic and cultural city as well as an excellent city to visit. It was the cradle of Chinese civilization in northern China more than fifty thousand years ago, and the Kiujiang man and Bailian Caveman were discovered here. Liuzhou was formally a city in Western Han Dynasty, and has a history of more than 2100 years.

In the poems of Liu Zongyuan, a well-known Chinese poet in Tang Dynasty and the essays of Xu Xiake, a famous Chinese traveler in Ming Dynasty, Liuzhou was described vividly in every aspect to be an excellent city both for cultural and scenery. Liuzhou, together with its northern areas and its neighbor Guilin, is part of the world’s famous Giant Guilin Scenic Zone.
Moreover, Liuzhou also derived its fame from its marvelous stone formations and the city’s reputation of “Stone City”. Furthermore, folk song culture in Liuzhou is also flourishing.
Liu River surrounds the downtown area of the city. On the north bank, the center of Liuzhou is surrounded by the river, forming a shape of “U”. According to ancient books, this is referred to as a “city surrounding a pot” and therefore earning Liuzhou the name of “Pot City”. With such an environment, Liuzhou seems to be a huge natural bonsai. The geography, mild climate and comfortable temperature make Liuzhou a tourist city all around the whole year.
