Brief information on Longji Terraced Field  

Located on Longji Mountain, Pingan Village, Guangxi Longsheng Autonomous Region, 80 km away from Guilin, the Longji Terrace Field is a fascinating scenic spot for tourists. It is also known as "Longsheng Terrace Field”.

According to the historical records, the fields were first constructed in the Yuan Dynasty and completed in the early Qing Dynasty, having a history of nearly 700 years. It is said that the Zhuang people here migrated from the seaside of Shandong Province to avoid wars in the Song Dynasty. In order to commemorate the sea, they continue to wear blue and white ribbons as their headdresses.

Situated 27 km from Long Sheng County and 80 km from downtown Guilin, the Longji Terrace Field covers an area of 66 square km. The altitudes of the terraces vary with the differing grades of the slopes, with the steepest slope standing at an angle of 50°. Although there are terraces everywhere amongst the mountainous areas of South China, it is extremely rare to see a terrace as big as the Longji Terrace Field. The Longji Terrace Field has its own unique natural flora/fauna and represents the abundant culture of Zhuang and Yao People. It is regarded as a precious cultural relic for these minority people and is considered an outstanding scenic spot in the world.

There are Zhuang and Yao People living in the area of the Longji Terrace Field. You can see well-preserved dresses and the folk dancing of the Zhuang People, as well as experience their ethnic songs and living styles.
