Longsheng History
In the ancient times, Longsheng was called Sangjiang. In Qin Dynasty, it belonged to Qianzhong Prefecture. In West Han Dynasty, it belonged to Wuling Prefecture. From Jin to Sui Dynasty, it belonged to Shi’an Prefecture. In 662, Tang Dynasty set up Lingchuan County, and Longsheng was divided to form this county. In 943, Yi’ning County was set up, then Longsheng belonged to Yi’ning till Ming Dynasty. In 1741 of Qing Dynasty, Longsheng Office was set up and governed by Guilin government.
In 1921, Longsheng Office was renamed Longsheng County. After the People’s Republic of China was founded, Longsheng still kept the name of Longsheng County and was governed by Guilin District. On August 19, 1951, Longsheng gained autonomy. In December of 1956, it was renamed Longsheng Minority Autonomous County. It is the first minority autonomous county founded in middle and south China.
