Brief information on Peony Park  

Founded in 1978, the Peony Park is located along the Peony Road in Jianxi District, about 4 km away from the city center of Luoyang. It is the only comprehensive peony-viewing garden in China where you can find research, viewing and production under the same roof.

Occupying an area of over 80 acres, the peony park boasts over 200,000 peonies in about 400 varieties, contributing to an ocean of blooming flowers. In addition, there are also many exquisite pavilions, terraces, and towers with an antique flavor, as well as many pretty giant sculptures. The man-made waterfall and stream also add to the beauty. Outside, the peony stone-carved corridor and the famous Chinese peony paintings in the park vividly reveal the history of the peony in China.

The tree peony, or Mudan, is a very beautiful plant that originated in China with compound, well-lobed leaves and large fragrant flowers. Since the Tang Dynasty, Luoyang’s peony is well-known for being the “best peony under heaven”. Every April, the grand Luoyang Peony Festival is held in the city. Each time, thousand of peonies bloom in a riot of color, presenting a splendid sight, which attracts many travelers both from home and abroad.
