Brief information on Mount Fortress
Mount Fortress is regarded as the First Western Fortress in China, occupying a hilltop on the peninsula of Macau. During the height of the Ming Dynasty and before the Ruins of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church was greatly damaged by fire, the Mount Fortress solemnly guarded the city. In 1998, the three-level Macau Museum, recording the history of Macau, was built into the fortress hill and it is now considered a major tourist attraction. Near to the Macau Museum there are Fortress Corridor and St. Lazarus’ pedestrian zone. What’s more, because of the location of the fortress, very close to the city center, it is also a popular venue for some international festival or important activities.
