Nanchang Travel Guide - Brief Information on Nanchang

Nanchang is the political, economic and cultural center of Jiangxi province and, naturally, it is the capital. It has long been known as a land of attractive resources, magical power, and as a birth place of creative minds and gifted talents. With over 2,000 years’ history and rich cultural heritage, the city of Nanchang was named a “historical cultural city” by China’s State Council.

Nanchang is located along the Ganjiang River at the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River, southwest of Poyang Lake. For many centuries, the famous China-ware from nearby Jingdezhen was stored and distributed from here. It has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons and plentiful rainfall: Winters, for instance, are short and quite mild while summers are long and humid. However, the annual average temperature is around 17 degrees C. Nanchang’s five districts and four counties are home to nearly 4,000,000 people.

Nanchang has many places of historical interest and Tengwang Pavilion is the most famous of these, Known as one of the “Four Great Towers of China”, it is situated on the east bank of the Gan River. Nanchang is also well known for its heroic role in China’s recent history: the communist-led August 1 Nanchang Uprising took place here in 1927. In addition, it is quite easy to take an excursion tour from here to Jingdezhen, China’s porcelain capital and Lushan Mountain, the famous summer resort.
