Poyang Lake is the largest fresh-water lake in China and is located in the north of Jiangxi province on the southern bank of the Yangtze River. It was named after Poyang Mountain nearby. After experiencing many geological changes, Poyang Lake settled into its current form, which, narrow in the north and wide in the south, seems a huge gourd tied to the waist of the Changjiang River.
Poyang Lake attracts numerous visitors with its picturesque scenery and has long done so. A famous poem from the Tang Dynasty portrays the attractive scenery of the lake: The evening glow flies at the side of the lonely wild duck; autumn waters share a scenic hue with the vast sky.
With plenty of water and lush grass, Poyang Lake is a favourite destination for bird watching. Every year, a lot of rare birds inhabit the lake area, making the landscape of the Poyang Lake even more delightful and attractive.
