Brief information on Confucius Temple

Confucius Temple (Fuzimiao in Pinyin) is located at Gongyuan Street on the northern bank of Nanjing’s Qin Huai River. Originally, it was a school in Eastern Jin Dynasty.  The Confucius Temple was established in the first year of the rule of Emperor Jingyou in the Song Dynasty after it was extended.

Qin Huai River served as a pool in front of the Temple, and the stone brick wall on the southern bank is a screen wall. Apart from Juxing Pavilion and Sile Pavilion in front of the temple on the northern bank, Lingxing Gate, Dacheng Gate, Dacheng Palace, Mingde Hall and Zunjing Pavilion on the axle wire and Kuixing Pavilion on the east of the temple are also visible.

The ancient architectural complex of Confucius Temple, consisting of Confucius Temple, School and Jiangnan Examination Office, was the hub of ancient Jiangnan Culture and at  the core of Qin Huai River’s scenery.

The annual Jinling Lantern Fair, held between Spring Festival and the  Lantern Festival in Confucius Temple is one of Nanjing’s main cultural activities.

The  Qin Huai River Scenic Belt has become a tourism and commerce center,  combining culture, tourism and shopping in one place.
