Nanning Food - What and Where to eat in Nanning

The food of Guangxi province is classified as Cantonese cuisine, although the city of Nanning is not particularly known for its special cuisine. However, that does not mean that the region is without its own specialties. Characterized as fresh, delicate, cool, nutritious and (gulp) slippery, Nanning cuisine is unique because it incorporates the traditional dishes of many southern minority groups such as the Yao, Miao, and Dong and Zhang people.

For the exotic food lover, Nanning is a haven of peculiar treats. Crispy, snake and dog meat, whole baby pigeons, and fried river snails all make frequent appearances on local menus. Famous Nanning meals are drunken squid, Qingchang fish, dog in hotpot (gourou huoguo), fried duck with lemon (ningmengya) and rice wrapped in lotus leaf (heye mifan).

Zhongshan Road is a famous food street in Nanning, where one can find various snacks both day and night. Besides, tourists can find many local cuisine and snack restaurants on Xinmin Road, Qixing Road, Gucheng Road, Jianzheng Road, Sixian Road, Yuanhu Road and Xinzhu Road.
