Brief information on Qingdao Catholic Church  

Qingdao Catholic Church, originally called St. Michael’s Church, was designed in a Gothic and Romanesque style by a German architect. Completed in 1934, the church grounds occupy an area of 11,480 square meters, of which about 6,300 square meters are building area.

The church, built with yellow granite and reinforced concrete is carved in a simple, graceful style. It has stately, semicircular arched windows and one large rose window above the main entrance. The church’s two bell towers are 56 meters high and have 4.5 meter crosses on their spires. The bell towers hold four bells which can be heard from miles away. The church’s bright main hall is 18 meters high and can accommodate one thousand people.

The church was closed in the late 1960s and then reopened in 1982. Now the church holds weekend services and festive celebrations of Christian holidays such as Easter and Christmas.
