Brief information on Taiqing Palace  

Taiqing Palace, also called Xiaqing Palace or Xia Palace, is located at the foot of Laojun Peak, which is at the southern foot of Laoshan Mountain. It faces the Yellow Sea and leans against seven peaks.

Since ancient times, Laoshan Mountain was regarded as the dwellings of immortals. It is said that there were 9 palaces, 8 Taoist temples, and 72 nunneries in Laoshan Mountain during its golden age. Currently, only total 17 exist. According to the records, Taiqing Palace was built in 140 B.C. by Zhang Lianfu who first served as the official in Han Dynasty and then took part in Taoism. Later, it was restored several times. Taiqing Palace has a history of more than 2,000 years.

The notable Taoists Zhang Sanfeng and Xu Fuyang once cultivated themselves according to the Taoist doctrines in Taiqing Palace.

At present, Taiqing Palace occupies an area of 30,000 m2, among which 2,500 m2are building area. The palace consists of three courtyards, which have their own gates. Sanguan Hall consecrates the Official of the Heaven, Official of the Land and Official of Water. Sanqing Hall consecrates Daode Tianzun, Yuanshi Tianzun and Lingbao Tianzun. Sanhuang Hall consecrates the three emperors --- Fu Xi, Shen Nong and Xuanyuan.
